Emergency Light Testing

What is it

Emergency lighting test, emergency lights to be isolated and demonstrate that the fittings illuminates under fault conditions. A 3 hour discharge test is performed to ensure the emergency light fitting works adequately. Each light is inspected to ensure it operates correctly and correct lamp installed. Inspection for sufficient number of lights and that the correct evacuation signs are present.

Why do you need it

In the event of a power failure safety of ones self, employees and members of the public are that emergency lighting systems work. Effective lighting helps navigate safely/ swiftly to the nearest exit in the event of an emergency.

When it need to be done

Every 12 months, emergency lights should undergo a 3 hour discharge test.

Internal monthly recorded 5minutes discharged checks commonly known as ‘flick’ test should be undertaken by a competent person.
